Abstract

Objective
To evaluate the cleanliness of the materials received as a loan for orthopedics in the sterilization center of a private sanatorium of CABA and their adherence to the cleaning protocol.
Methods
An analysis of the cleanliness of the borrowed instruments received and their containers was carried out for 6 months through a visual examination using a magnifying glass, alcohol-soaked gauze and the surface protein quantification method. The adherence of the Orthopedics to the cleaning protocol was measured using the traceability system.
Results
In the analyzed period, a total of 3,348 containers were received, of which 219 were rejected. The analysis of temporal data revealed that, from the implementation of the protocol, the dirt index (IS) was reduced by 50% during the study period. On the other hand, the adherence of a high percentage of orthopedics to the institutional protocol was observed.
Conclusions
The application of cleaning controls and their qualitative and quantitative results allowed the adherence of orthopedics that did not approve the institutional quality standards, observing a decrease in the number of orthopedic boxes rejected due to dirt.
