Percepción de la conducta farmacéutica frente a la indicación de profilaxis de hemorragia digestiva alta en pacientes adultos hospitalizados en Argentina

The unrestricted use of anti-ulcer drugs for upper gastrointestinal bleeding prophylaxis in hospitalised patients has become a global problem. Although there are recommendations for use in patients in and out of critical care units, there is literature indicating a lack of adherence to these recommendations. However, there is little evidence evaluating the performance of pharmacists in this context. For this reason, the present multicentre observational study was carried out with the aim of finding out how pharmacists perceive their own behaviour in relation to the problems described, as well as the performance of medical colleagues in relation to the need for digestive prophylaxis. Using a form of their own design, pharmacists from different provinces of Argentina were surveyed. It was observed that the perception of the prescription of anti-ulcer drugs is disproportionate, while the level of pharmaceutical intervention, its acceptance and knowledge of institutional guidelines related to the topic of interest, would be low. It was concluded that the present study revealed opportunities to improve pharmaceutical validation and medical prescription of antiulcer drugs for upper gastrointestinal bleeding prophylaxis.
